The IRNRD Research Group on the Political Thought of the Islamic World (visit here RG-PTIW) was established by the IRNRD in 2012 in order to conduct
cutting edge research within the field of contemporary political
philosophy and comparative political theory as these disciplines
unfold within the OIC member states.
The RG-PTIW presented its first round of
papers at the IRNRD 5th Annual Conference in New Delhi, on “The
Future of the Arab Spring,” at the prestigious Indian Council of
World Affairs, New Delhi (10-11 December 2012). These presentation
will form the core of a book on The
Future of the Arab Spring, to
be published in 2013 by Oxford University Press.
The RG-PTIW will present its second
round of papers at the IRNRD 6th Annual Conference to be held in
Beirut, Lebanon, on “Religion(s) and Civil Society” (December
2013).
The Group is currently engaged in a
major international cooperative project, working together with many
of the world’s leading Muslim political thinkers and philosophers –
including Abdullahi An-Na’im, Sadik Al Azm, Abdolkarim Soroush,
Akeel Bilgrami, and numerous others – on a state-of-the-art volume
on the contemporary political thought of the Islamic world, also to
be published by Oxford University Press.
